Quick Study: Romans 6:12
[Rom 6:12 NASB] 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,
What's the therefore there for? In this case, it is to infer a conclusion from chapter 6 verse 11. If you and I are dead to sin, a fact as sure as Jesus's death and Resurrection, then we should not let sin reign.
"...do not let sin reign in your mortal body..."
Why? Well, there are multiple reasons:
1. Because you're dead to it.
2. Because there's another, who is Lord over you now. 1 Peter 3:15 "but sanctify Christ as Lord in your heart."
3. Because sin never stops at living in you, it always moves to living through you!
"Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,"
You and I are dead to sin as Christians. Jesus is Lord now. And we are not to let sin back in because it only ever sees us as a slave to obey lust.
As people "dead to sin" are we unable to allow sin to reign in our mortal bodies? Why not?
