Quick Study: Romans 6:6
[Rom 6:6 NASB] 6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with [Him,] in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
The phrase 'our old self' (ὁ παλαιὸς ἡμῶν ἄνθρωπος) is literally translated as the person we used to be. This understanding is vital in our transition as Christians (in view of mercy) to a life of holiness, biblical repentance and the process of sanctification.
If we were to transpose this understanding onto the story of the prodigal son we would see quite clearly that the sons return to the father was far more than a simply confession of wrong doing. Rather it was an abandonment of the person he used to be that resulted in his distance from the father.
Question: How are you different know that you walk with Jesus? Who were you and who have you now become?
