The Good News
To the barren woman, the words "you're with child" constitute good news. To the sick, "you are healed." To the slave, "you are free." And to all in the bondage of sin, a plight self-imposed, the only gospel is "repent and believe, and you will be saved!" To merely tell people that they are "loved," without an answer to their actual need is not good news. It's akin to James 2:15-16, "If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?" When it comes to daily needs, if it is useless to tell someone to "go in peace" without actual physical help, how much more useless is it to say to the sinner "Jesus loves you" but stay silent to the actual solution? Jesus' love offered us the chance to repent and believe. There is no love void of this. To the sinner aware, this is truly good news!
