Sinless - Just a Sinner?
"I'm just a sinner saved by grace."
All of us have heard it. Most of us have even said it. The problem is, it's not true. Well, at least not all of it.
Let me start off by affirming that what the Bible says is right, and I believe it without equivocation. Paul tells us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. John tells us the if we say we have no sin, the truth is not in us and we deceive ourselves. Furthermore, the scripture teaches that the wages of sin are death and the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, and this gift is an act of grace alone.
So whats the problem? That's what this series is all about.
I want to challenge where we stand as Christians concerning sin. Are we, as some profess, stuck in sin? Is there no hope for victory this side of heaven? Should we espouse such a narrow view of grace that merely makes our evil actions disappear in God's eyes or a more robust view that sees grace as empowerment to live Godly lives? Can we (by ourselves) attain to sinless perfection? What did Paul mean when he said: "the things I want to do, I cannot"?
The list of questions is quite long, and over the next four days, I hope to get to each one, showing what the Bible says instead of what our experience alone has reported. I hope you'll join me as we look at this all too important topic.
Tomorrow we're going to look to the Exodus for some answers. Please read Hebrews 11:23-29
