Equipping The Saints
Equipping the saints for the works of service.
That's what pastors, teachers, apostles, prophets, and evangelists are tasked with according to Ephesians 4:11-12. Even more staggering than that Paul states that these particular offices are gifts given to the church by God Himself.
I've been in ministry now for shy of 20 years, and I can tell you very bluntly, I have never felt like a gift in God's church. That's probably grace though, a way of preventing pride.
But here's the real issue. I've also rarely felt it was my duty to equip people for works of service. Seriously!
In the modern church we've messed up the order God laid out in Ephesians. Instead of God-given leaders that equip the saints to do the work, we have a collection of saints who pay leaders to do the work for them.
It's not that I wanted to violate God's design as a pastor, it just wasn't the model I was shown.
Over the next few days, I will be making a case for why we must get back to this God-ordained order. We will see the implications of not doing it God's way as well as the Biblical results that are intended when we do follow God's plan.
I hope you'll join me as we grow into a church of people equipped for the works of service that God planned for us to walk in!
Challenge: Read Ephesians 4 for yourself. Ask yourself, what does Paul say the results of God's order will produce.
