Within & Without
"But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death." - James 1:14-15 NASB After Adam and Eve violated God's one and only command in the garden, God came looking for His creation. Asking Adam what had happened, Adam immediately pointed his finger at Eve; and God too for that matter. Do you remember what he said? "The woman you gave me..." How many times do we try to blame somebody else for our own sin and the things it causes? Far too many to count sadly. In Adams case, as well as ours, we need to look inward first. Look again at what James says. Notice that temptation is not caused by an outside agent. Instead, it's caused by lust within. Of course, when lust is conceived it turns into sin, and when sin reaches maturity it leads to death. But the beginning of this tragedy doesn't come from without it comes from within. We are not victims of outside forces regarding sin. No! It's the stuff within us that's the real problem. In the Garden, Adam had only himself to blame. The truth is he wanted to be like God. Eve was not his downfall, it was his own lust. In our lives we have to be careful, the scripture is clear it's what's within that causes the issues without.
