Whatever You Do
"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." - Colossians 3:17 NIV It's easy to get into the mindset that the only real acts of service to God are those which are performed within the walls of the church. Greeting people, making coffee, serving in kids ministry or moving on to the supposed higher positions in church. And no doubt these areas are important. They are simply not the only service to God. God sees everything that goes on. And God wants that each Christians whole life be lived as an expression of obedient worship before him; everything, in every way!
This idea is exactly what we read in today's passage. Paul tells the Christians here that whatever they do it is to be done in the name of Jesus. "Whatever they do." That seems to cover a whole lot, doesn't it? And that's the point! Each and every day of our lives, whatever they consist of, are to be carried out in the name of Jesus. My challenge to you, is that you pause before everything that you do today and ask yourself "how can I do this in the name of Jesus?" If your answer is that you can't, then don't do whatever it may be. However, if the answer is that you simply have to change something about what you have been doing, then change it. Whether in word or in deed church, all things are to be done in the name of Jesus. This is the true call of God on each and every one of our lives. Questions to Consider: What are some things you do in the name of Jesus now? What are some things you've never submitted to God because you thought he simply did not care?
