The Message of Christ
"Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts." - Colossians 3:16 NIV Have you ever received an encouraging message or a timely note that got you through a really tough time? If your answer is yes, I think today's scripture is going to speak to you as it did me. You see, as I read Paul's instruction I noticed that he told the Colossians to let the "message" of Christ dwell among them. He didn't say to let Christ dwell among them, after all that was already true. Rather, he said to let a "message" dwell; the message of Christ?! Now we shouldn't overlook that the message was to dwell "richly" and that it was to do so as they "taught and admonished one another with all wisdom through psalms and hymns and songs from the Spirit..." But all of these simply describe delivery mechanisms; the message was the integral part. Like that timely letter from a friend, the gospel message was intended to hold a preeminent place in their lives. It was intended to transform and change them on a daily basis. And the truth is, it's intended to do the same for you and me. I want to challenge you not to simply "know" the gospel and put it on a proverbial shelf, but instead, I pray you'll let the message dwell so richly inside of you that it encourages you and those around you! Questions to Consider: What does it mean to allow the message of Christ to richly dwell among us? How do you think our churches would change if this message was deeply rooted in our hearts?
