"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God." - Colossians 3:1 NIV Today's passage brings to mind that old Christian critique that goes something like, "You're so heavenly minded you're no earthly good." A critique likely born out of frustration with people who spend all their time talking a good talk but never walking the walk.
Although there may be an appropriate time for such a critique (see James 2:14-17) today's passage calls us to the exact opposite. Those of us who have been "raised with Christ" are instructed to set our minds on things above. In other words, we're actually told we should be heavenly minded. The reason for this (in context) is to encourage each of us to focus on Jesus. Thus motivating us to walking by faith each and every day. Paul not critiquing us. He is actually telling us the only way to be any earthly good is to be truly heavenly minded. Challenge yourself today to focus on the things above and see just how it changes what you do! Questions to Consider: How can setting our hearts on things above change even our outlook about the day? What are some things that you've been motivated to do as a result of doing this?
